BRIDGETON LIBRARY REOPENS JAN 10TH AFTER REPAIRING WATER-RELATED DAMAGE

They improvised and adjusted, they secured space at the nearby Sheppard House and they moved books and periodicals so they could serve the public. But now that the water damage is repaired at the Bridgeton Public Library, they are back to full service as of January 10th and according to Library Director Courtenay Reece, it’s the perfect way to start the New Year.

“While the library building itself needed a little down-time for repairs, we were determined to keep some level of service available for our patrons. We have a lot of seniors, students, and families that depend on our services, so we’re thrilled to be home and back at full speed” said Reece.

According to Reece, it was flooding from a hot water heater in mid-October that caused damage on the main floor and into some of the activity rooms in the basement.

Only the quick action of staff prevented damage to books and other inventory, but the building had to close for the installation of new carpeting, paint and related renovations.

During that time, Reece and the BPL team created a “pop-up” library with limited hours at the historic David Sheppard House on East Commerce Street.

In their “pop-up” mode, BPL offered services, shuttling back and forth to fulfill book requests and keeping Wi-Fi, magazines, and periodicals on hand for the public.

Now that the work is completed, the team at BPL is spreading the word that they’re back and open for business on January 10th at 10am offering a full menu of services and activities for the entire community.

Beyond the 10th, they’re inviting friends, supporters and the public to join them on January 28th at 1:00pm for their Grand Reopening Party to celebrate the occasion.

“It was a team effort; we want to thank our public patrons for their patience and understanding. Bridgeton Main Street was generous in providing space at the Sheppard House for the pop-up library and my colleagues at City Hall were great in the renovation phase. I want to invite everyone to come out and see their “new-look” Bridgeton library, said Reece.
