BRIDGETON
SET FOR THE 20TH ANNUAL “COATI DAY” AT COHANZICK ZOO
Coatimundis simply can’t wait
to tell us whether or not spring will arrive early this year. Unlike that
slowpoke up in Punxsutawny, Pennsylvania who looks for his shadow on February 2nd,
our Coatimundis, who answers to “Terreto”, will provide his prediction on
Sunday, February 1st at the Cohanzick Zoo located along Mayor Aitkin
Drive in Bridgeton City Park.
Terreto is set to make his
prediction at 10:00am and regardless of whether it’s to be an early spring or
not, children coming out to see Terreto will have a fun time doing arts and
crafts to take home beginning at 10:30am.
Coatimundis or “coatis”
for short, is a native of South Texas, Arizona, and parts of Central America. Related
to the raccoon, Coatimundis are white-nosed furry critters that, unlike the nocturnal
raccoon, love to play during the day.
The tradition started
years ago with local meteorologist Dom Coatimundi. Dom passed away several
years ago, but the tradition he started survives and has been passed on among generations
of Coatis including; Carmella, Floriemel, and Margarita. This year, Terreto
proudly accepts the honor.
Free of charge, all are
welcome to visit the Cohanzick Zoo on Sunday, February 1st at
10:00am to see what the forecast will be. Let’s hope for an early spring.
