KELLY & PAL HOLD BREAKFAST DEC 19TH AS PART OF GIFT DRIVE FOR AREA CHILDREN

Success as an elected official can be measured in many ways, but for Bridgeton Mayor Albert B. Kelly, one important measure, at least during the holiday season, is the number of unwrapped gifts collected for the areas underprivileged children, which can then be distributed through the Bridgeton Area Police Athletic League.

As he’s done in year’s past, Mayor Kelly will be holding the “Mayor’s Holiday Breakfast” at the Marino Center at 11 Washington Street on December 19th from 8:00am to 10:00am.

His one standing request, aside from bringing a healthy appetite, is that those attending bring at least one unwrapped child or youth gift for a young person between the ages of 2 and 17 years old.

The gifts will be distributed by the Bridgeton Area Police Athletic League, with the volunteers at PAL working to ensure that the gifts get to those individuals and families that might not otherwise be able to get- or give- this holiday season; a cause near to his heart.

“The season is about giving and it doesn’t get much better than seeing the delight on the face of a young person as they open a gift they’ve been given. For families in our area are in hard times, parents may not be able to afford much and working with and through partners like PAL, we want to help” said Kelly.

Because of the age range, Kelly is hoping that those attending will keep in mind that the gift drive also hopes to provide for tweens and teens as well; many of whom participate in the PAL activities.

“Often, when think of helping children, we think of the youngest children, but our teens and tweens have one foot in childhood even as they have the other foot in young adulthood. There will be time enough to be a grown with all those challenges; I still want to know they got to smile on Christmas morning,” Kelly said.
